Folklore picture books with local soil colors

(St. Mary’s High School, Organized by The Japan Foundation, Manila 2013)
This was a workshop at a high school in the mountainous region of the Philippines. Students drew the village folklore learned from a family using collected soil paint from the surrounding area and woodblock print. They hand-lettered the story on the last page after making a folded book with the woodblock as the cover of the book. I cannot forget the students from the distant deep mountains who were rejoiced to learn that they can make paints with familiar natural materials.
