プリントするという行為そのものを明らかにするために、press-printing performanceとしてこの作品を制作しました。その主題の焦点を造形の行為や過程の上に置き、ビートルートという赤い根菜を使って、雪の上に螺旋を点描していきました。まず、螺旋の中心からふちに向かってビートルートを置いていき、その終着点から中心に向かって、設置したビートルートを輪切りにしながら雪の上に押し当てて点線を描いていきました。次のビートルートを設置してあるポイントにきたら、新しいビートルートに持ち替え、点描を続けていきました。
螺旋の形態は、以前に描いた油彩絵画 “Roughly Center”から持ち出し、paintingと press-printingの特徴の違いを見るようにしました。Paintingにおいては、絵の具をずらしたり拭ったり、画面上で動かすことができますが、press-printingでは、絵の具はそれぞれの決まった所に定着されます。この違いを比べてみて、press-printingは、制作作業中の断片的な行動の瞬間を、paintingは継続的に重ねられた制作行為を、それぞれ画面上に現すことができるのだと思います。

I made this work as a press-printing performance for showing and making the action itself of printing clearer. I focused the subject upon the action and its process of making art itself. I printed all dots with beetroots on the snow ground and drew a spiral with the dots. First, I installed the beetroots from the center of spiral to the hem. Next I began making the way by cutting a beetroot and pressing one on the ice ground from the hem to the center. I changed the beetroot to new one and put the old one at the next point when I reached there.
I readopted the spiral shape from one of my painting work “Roughly Center”. I expected to show the different processes and both of features between painting and press-printing. On the painting work, the color could slide, be wiped and moved on same place, but on the press-printing work, the color was fixed on each place. Through comparing the difference, the both of characteristic color conditions give me an idea that the Press-printing can show each independent moments of the action, and painting can show us a proceeded and related action on making art.
These performance was shown at Artist-in-Residence Stundars, Finland, Dec. 2002
